| What is Best Bar None? |
|
Best Bar None is an initiative to improve management standards in licensed premises with the ultimate objective of reducing crime nationwide. Originally developed in partnership with the Greater Manchester Police it seeks to set a common benchmark of operating standards for pubs and clubs. The 2001 British Crime Survey showed that a significantly high proportion of violent and acquisitive crime was directly or indirectly linked to the poor management standards of licensed properties. The scheme offers an incentive for operators to adopt best practices and compliments strong enforcement activity within a crime reduction strategy. Raising standards – reducing crimeSince its initiation in 2003, Best Bar None has proved extremely effective. For example early successes included an overall 12% reduction in late night disorder in Manchester, with 75% reduction in some premises, while Croydon Town Centre has seen an average of 11% reduction in violent crime per year. |
